34 new & unique materials for Prime members!
We’ve done all of the hard work for you …
With our newly upgraded Designmake Prime service you can request any material you want! If we can source and make it, it’s yours!
This is a great way to do something different and stand out from the crowd.
And remember … if you only need a small P1 size of the material, you do NOT need to buy a huge sheet from the supplier - we’ll do that for you. So you only need to pay for the small bit. Easy!
Anyhow, as you probably know it can be a real pain finding the materials you want in the first place.
So we’ve saved you the agony and compiled a materials guide for you to choose from.

WOW - you’ve done more work for us - thanks yet again!
One question - how does pricing work? In fact, what is the procedure for requesting a material?

Oh wow. And . . . wow. Hey what are the burn marks on the edges of the paper & card like? And is a fringe of the rest of the paper browned a little too, or does the affect stop right at the edge? And at some point, did I hear something about eventually water-jet cutting? Oh I can’t wait to see samples of the cut paper in the materials catalog.

This is great! Can we also get some mirrored acrylic, and in different colours?
May 21st, 2009 at 1:34 am
Jess - Unfortunately we do not do mirrored acrylic because the burning smell is toxic - makes you sick dizzy, at best. And you wouldn’t want that for your little maker helpers would you?
OrigamiMarie - There is a burn mark right on the edge. BUT we lay a NEW low tack tape over the papers and card to protect them from smoke damage across the face. So give it a go and make a materials request! A small bit of paper will cost you a few cents and you can so a simple design - it’s easy and very very low cost. (No WJ in the short term, but we have a very big announcement about another type of making process coming soon).
Jon - Can’t wait to see what you make from this!
Lu - You’re good to go on various thicknesses of stainless steel, aluminum and brass.

Yes, I second the question about how we specify some of these material (silicon rubber would be cool, as would teflon. I even found sheets of carbon fiber at McMaster Carr - must resist urge to buy!). Also - what about cutting tubes, etc? Possible?
Really good stuff, Ponoko - glad I signed up for Prime.

Is there a chance to get skateboard grip tape? That would be good stuff.

Seth: Yes - grip tape works. See our previous foray into that here … http://blog.ponoko.com/2009/03/06/core77-laser-cut-grip-tape-results/

I just got an idea that I don’t think I saw on these sites (though I may have missed something). Sticker paper. Adhesive-backed stuff with a peel-off paper. Even better would be some sort of long-lasting plastic with clear adhesive backing. This would give so many more options for assembly.
